After our quick power nap, Julia and I met up with some of the other girls and we headed out at around 6:00 to get good seats for fireworks. They didn't even start until ten so we had a long night ahead of us! When we got to the Eiffel Tower it was so crowded. I have never seen so many people in one area at a time. They said on the news later that there had been over 1 million people there. While we waited we chatted with some fellow english speakers next to us. They were from Vancouver. The show finally started an for the first two hours they had Jonny Hassy singing. He's some french singer, but he totally reminds me of Neil Diamond. He was terrible. Finally the fireworks started, and it was definitely worth the wait! It was the coolest show I have ever seen. They had this projector on the Eiffel Tower that made it look like it was changing shape. Then they went through the procession of France gaining Independence, and then just through the main periods of time. They had a hippie time where the entire tower was covered in flowers and peace signs. It was pretty cool.
When the show ended it was pretty close to impossible to find our way out of there. We were told that it was really dangerous to be Americans and out at this party so we made sure not to speak any english. We all hooked arms and tried to stay connected through the mob of people. I felt like we were a herd of cows. It probably took about 45 minutes to get back to the hotel. But it was so worth it! Check out the fireworks video and the pictures. Bastille Day is such a great day.
