Today we had the morning off to go and do some things before we left for Fountainebleu and Vaux le Vicomte in the afternoon. I got up pretty early and headed out with Julia, Jeanette, and Allie. We went to the Paris Catacombs, and boy were they sweet. The catacombs are where wealthy people had been buried long ago. It was their way of preserving the bodies similarly to mummy preservation. There started to be too many bodies down there and too many bodies in cemetaries all around Paris so they decided to take all of the extra bones and pull them apart and create something artistic out of them. So that is what the Catacombs is today. A group of tunnels lined with bones that are piled artistically. It was pretty cool if you ask me. We had to climb down about 4 flights of stairs and then wandered through these tunnels looking at piles of bones. It was very haunting in a way, but we had a blast! Afte the Catacombs Julia, Jeanette, and I went to Les Invalides for a total of about 20 minutes. It was military headquarters during Napolean's rule. It's also where he was buried. Even though we didn't get to stay there to long it was still neat to see.
So I know this is confusing... I'm behind on blogs so down below is my pattern assignment for London and then the rest of this day is continued after that. Hope you can figure it out.
