7/20/09 -- A day of Museums and Harry Potter!

So the very first day of London. Darrin let us sleep in until about 8:30, funny how that is sleeping in on this trip. Anyway we headed off to the V&A Museum. The V&A Museum stands for Victoria and Albert and is one of the world's greatest museums for art and design. I really enjoyed this museum a lot. It had a mix of history; European, Middle Eastern, Egyptian; plus a mix of design; fashion and interior. I had a really good time in it. It was one of the museums that we had to use for our pattern assignment so it was fun to look at everything a little more closely, because I was studying it to find a pattern. It always makes you appreciate things more when you have to study it as closely as we do in design. After going through the museum we all ate our packed lunches out in the beautiful gardens.

We went on a walk around London again after the museum. We walked past Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and then we went to London City Hall. This building is really cool looking. It was designed by the architect Sir Norman Foster. We also saw his other building from a distance. It's called the Gurken building, and it looks like a cucumber. It's used for the Swiss exchange building or something like that. It's a different looking building, but I like it a lot. After stopping at town hall for a little bit we headed to Tate Modern. This was another museum that we used for our patterns. I really really liked this museum. It was full of modern exhibits and modern paintings including many of Picasso's paintings. We spent about an hour in the museum, and then headed back to the hotel to eat and get ready because we were going to the sixth Harry Potter movie.

We had a quick dinner of oven cooked pizza, which actually tasted really good, and then we rushed out to get to the theatre in time. There was a total of about 15 of us that went. We went to the Empire Theatre at Leicester square. We had to stand in line for about 20 minutes and then we finally got tickets and went into the theatre. The theatre was massive!!! It honestly looked like Abravenal Hall back home, but it was for a movie. There were easily 500+ people in that theatre. It made it so magical though!!! And I loved the movie.
